For those traveling to Italy with us this year, make sure your passports are up to date. You will  likely need an ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) to visit Italy in late 2026, as it is expected to become mandatory for visa-exempt travelers (including U.S. citizens) for short stays. It is not a visa, but an online pre-screening requirement costing approximately €7, which will be electronically linked to your passport.

  Key details:

  • When: The requirement is expected to start in the last quarter of 2026.

  • What: ETIAS is for the Schengen Area (which includes Italy).

  • Action: You must apply online before your trip.

  • Alternatives: None. A UK ETA is only required if you are traveling through the UK,
                           not for entry into Italy.

Important: The exact launch date has been delayed previously, from 2025, so it is
recommended to check official European Union websites closer to your
                    2026 travel date.

You will need more than just your passports and TSA numbers to enter Italy.

Please make sure you apply for ETIAS for Italy.
